Notes From My Day With Oprah.

Notes From My Day With Oprah.

Oprah Winfrey launched her Vision2020 tour and this past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the event where her special guest was Former Lady Michelle Obama. The Barclay Center was packed with 15,000 fans, young and old ranging from news, television and film personalities, (like Hoda Kotb and Lupita Nyong’o) to Nate Berkus, his partner, Jeremiah Brent, her best friend, Gayle King, and more.

In pure Oprah, style participant’s arrived at their seats where monogrammed Oprah gift bags greeted them filled with a workbook, gift sets of products, and some snacks from WW, Wellness that Works, formerly known as Weight Watchers.

And there sets the theme for the event, wellness. Not weight gain or weight loss, but whole being, mental, emotional, and physical wellness. Which means focusing on yourself and what wellness means to you. Not what it means to anyone else.

Here are some key highlights from the day-long event.

  1. It was like being at a private event in Ms. O’s home where she invited you to get real and vulnerable with yourself.

  2. The guest speakers and performers included movement specialists, gospel singers, local citizens, first responders and of course the special guest, Michelle Obama.

  3. Attendees were as young as 20 and as mature as 60 plus.

  4. The workbook included quizzes so participants could identify their own wellness quotient and a journal so everyone could begin their own deep personal work.

  5. Forget New Year’s Resolutions and pick a Word of the Year as your intention.

  6. Intention drives your emotions, igniting your energy, putting you in flow to reach your desired outcome.

  7. Change is a constant in life so we need to learn how to flow with it instead of resisting it.

  8. In the age os communications through screens, we are all craving CONNECTION.

  9. Be grateful for the struggles you have gone through in life, they helped shape the person you are today.

  10. You are UNIQUE so show the world your “uniqueness,”. It’s never too late to live the life you desire. You just have to decide to.

And at the end of the day, we all chanted with lady O the mantra she taught us that day.

“I Will.” “I Can.” “Watch Me.”
