How Can We Improve Our Emotional Intelligence?

Hello Wonderful People,

When we focus on improving our Emotional Intelligence, we are also, directly and indirectly, improving so many other facets of our lives. However, Emotional Intelligence (EI) may not come naturally to everyone, so here are some key components to keep in mind:

  1. Self Awareness - Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. What do you excel or struggle with?

  2. Emotional Recognition- Give name and meaning to your emotions. 

  3. Self Motivation- Think about why you want to improve. What inspired you to improve your emotional awareness?

  4. Social Responsibility- Observe and listen to others. Think critically on “how to read a room”. 

Now, what are some small steps you can take to improve your Emotional Intelligence?

  1. Remember the details. 

    When you take the time to remember and learn something about someone else, you are creating space for a true connection. 

  2. Ask for feedback from those you trust.

    Getting feedback from others can open your eyes to new perspectives and help you see yourself in a new light.

  3. Review your day.

    Revisit the conversations you have had with others and the emotions you had experienced throughout the day. How did you cope with a stressful meeting, or what things made you smile?

    Strengthening your emotional intelligence will lead to a greater sense of fulfillment in your social life, relationships, and most importantly, with yourself.
