Essential Oils to Calm Your Mood During a Full Moon
We’ve seen the profound effect that the moon can have on our moods, sleep, and anxiety! When I feel that extra pull from the Full moon I try to reach for something to ease my mood and help me get some much-needed rest. As you all know, I am a big believer in the benefits of essential oils and wanted to share what oils use to counteract that anxious energy we can feel on a Full Moon! If you are interested in essential oils and would like to learn more after reading this article, please check out YoungLiving. YoungLiving is where you find everything you need to sleep and live better with the help of essential oils. Now, let’s talk about calming and sleep-inducing essential oils:
LAVENDER:
No list of calming oils would be complete without lavender. Lavender is renowned everywhere for its anxiety-reducing effects and wonderful aroma. It calms the nervous system and can even lower your blood pressure! I recommend putting a few drops in your diffuser 15 minutes before going to bed to get the full effects.
CYPRESS:
A potent, multipurpose oil, cypress has many health benefits. It relieves anxiety, lowers inflammation in the body, and even treats aches and cramps in muscles. For a relaxing activity during the more energizing weeks of the moon cycle, put some cypress oil into your baths a night to put your whole body at rest.
SAGE:
Specifically, clary sage oil, has often elicited calming effects when diffused in the air. Sage oil is also beneficial for health conditions such as skin irritation and reduces headaches. Sage is also often used in smudging rituals that clear areas and people of any negative auras and spirits. This oil is particularly useful for a Full Moon, as this phase is known for its mystical properties.
JASMINE:
A common oil used in aromatherapy, Jasmine has a rich, fruity but slightly sweet scene that can be found in many oil and perfume blends. Jasmine, when consumed as a tea, can clear our thinking by improving our brain functioning as well as lower anxiety and depression. Jasmine oils will calm the whole nervous system and combat the moon’s pull so that you can get a good night’s rest.
CHAMOMILE:
Chamomile is a powerful and trusted sleep aide. Often consumed as a tea, chamomile can calm an upset stomach, relax nerves, and put us in a sleepier state. Diffused, it releases an enjoyable and relaxing herby floral scent that will fill the room and induce sleep. If consuming chamomile drops, be sure to dilute it in water and not overdo it.
In addition to using essential oils to relax and aid your sleep, there are many things you can incorporate into your daily life to calm down and reduce anxiety. Be sure to check out this article from Berkley Wellbeing for some tips on how to do just that. I often take an essential oil bath, journal, or meditate (If you would like some advice on meditation, check out my blog!). I am sure that with the help of the essential oils and good practices, you will be well-rested and happy no matter what phase of the moon cycle we are in!
