How To Fight Your Inner Saboteur
‘Saboteurs are the set of [limiting] mind patterns that govern your every move. They automatically influence your beliefs, thoughts and behaviors, and they are steering you in the wrong direction — that is, you're sabotaging yourself.’
- Tony Robbins (How to Discover Your Saboteur and Overcome It)
Yes, today beautiful souls, we’ll be talking about how to fight our own worst saboteur.
I always say that your own worst enemy is yourself. Often, we can find ourselves sabotaging our dreams, aspirations, and happiness.
Here’s some examples of this presenting in your life:
Dating people who don’t suit you
Staying in a job that makes you unhappy
Not asking for help when you need it
Constantly missing deadlines
And so much more…
Self-sabotage is often a bi-product of imposter syndrome - the idea that you’re not competent enough or worthy of your situation. You feel like an imposter.
Example: you can’t see how amazing you are at your job as a manager, but you would never have gotten it if the hiring team didn’t see the skills and talent you have within you.
So how do we combat it? Here are three tips to get you started:
1. Own it - Accept that you will definitely feel like self-sabotaging… It's a normal feeling and something that we all experience.
2. Challenge it - But defeat it. When you have a self-sabotaging thought that you may act on, hold yourself accountable. Text a friend to say, I need help hitting that deadline, can we study together?
3. Be kind to yourself - Journal, go for walks and practice mindfulness. Find activities that display your self-love. When you’re kinder to yourself, you’ll be less likely to self-sabotage. Kindness is the best policy.
