My June Reads

With those temperatures rising, there’s even more of an excuse to grab a good book and sit in the shade! Here are my reads for this month that will lift you and have you enjoying the present moment:

Untamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living

 by Glennon Doyle

This memoir will have you exploring all of life’s new possibilities when you no longer live to fulfill the expectations of others. The author seeks for us to see what life could be like once we decide to live every moment presently and honestly - exactly as we are. Let this book provide you with support and inspiration as you move towards an untamable future.

How Do We Know We're Doing It Right?: And Other Thoughts On Modern Life

 by Pandora Sykes

Sykes, has us rethink our priorities and assumptions in How Do We Know We’re Doing It Right? This book provides the opportunity for us all to reflect and dissect where our goals and our ideas of happiness, and womanhood derive from. We can often lose sight of our own sense of happiness, Sykes and her novel spark conversation and inspiration as you go on to rediscover your sense of purpose and contentment.

You Are Here: Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment

by Thich Nhat Hanh

Following Buddhist principles, Hanh emphasizes the importance of appreciating the present moment, and how mindfulness can transform how we experience them. You Are Here, teaches that through incorporating breathing exercises and mantras, you can cultivate a new level of mindfulness that will heighten your experience of living in the moment.

Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving

by Celeste Headlee

Headlee, in Do Nothing, explains the impact of how living in a society that “lives to work” can have on our mental and emotional health. Our high workload mentality can drastically affect our vision of the future and how we experience the present. This book is a well-researched and thought-provoking exploration in how constantly focusing on the future and the “things we need to do” can take away from our present lives. Headlee strives to break us free from this cycle and to start really living- and enjoying- our lives, right now exactly as we are.
