5 Ways to Stimulate Your Mind
This month we have been discussing the importance of movement, and strengthening the connection we can have with our bodies. However, we cannot forget to also take care of and fortify our minds and mental well-being. There is a powerful interconnection between our mind and body that impacts us every day. So let’s give it the love and care it deserves.
So how can we strengthen our minds as well as our bodies?
Here are 5 ways that you can stimulate your mind:
1. Grab a new book
Reading has always been proven to improve our memory and increase our comprehension, as well as vocabulary. So grab a new and exciting book (check out some of my favorite reads here!) and explore new worlds and perspectives.
2. Mindful coloring or crafts
Coloring is not just for kids! Coloring has been shown to lower stress, relax the fear center in our brains, and calm a restless mind. I encourage you to release that inner child, and use your creative side - and this goes for any craft you’d like to do! Knitting, painting, journaling (I have some prompts I like to use to get started!), have all been proven to release small amounts of dopamine. So go get crafty!
3. Learn a new skill or hobby
Besides crafting and coloring, learning new skills also keeps our minds active and youthful. Learning a language challenges the brain to think in new ways and keep our memory engaged. Musical instruments also have similar effects but even more so, learning a musical instrument also improves the connection to our reflexes - such as the piano or flute.
4. Keep challenging yourself
This can depend on the person but some techniques I use to stimulate my mind are using my non-dominant hand for simple tasks. For example, I will use my left hand to whisk or stir something while in the kitchen, or even with a fork while eating.
5. Mental exercises and games
We have all heard of Sudoku, but there are always so many other activities you can do to test your mind and memory! Crosswords, puzzles, and even Jenga give us the opportunity to use our natural problem-solving skills. There are also games and apps specifically designed to stimulate your brain and strengthen your memory. Check out Lumosity, Happify, and Elevate, and download whichever one you want to try right on your phone.
Remember, keeping our minds stimulated and keeping our inner self healthy, is just as important as taking care of our outer self.
Speaking of empowering the mind, another activity that I like to do to stimulate my mind and body connection is through tarot reading. With that in mind, I am excited to announce that in August 2022, I will be teaching a 4-week online course on the Basics of Tarot Reading!
It will cover everything you will need to know to go from an absolute beginner to an experienced medium. In this class we will discuss:
