6 Ways Yoga Can Help Boost Self-Confidence

As we spoke about last week, good self-confidence is important to facilitate a happy life. Sure, none of us are confident 100% of the time - believe me! But self-confidence alters a lot of the day to day, so we should often check in with ourselves and work towards building it little by little.
From taking yourself on walks, getting out and socialising, or even to doing some meditation and yoga, the journey to self-confidence isn’t always an easy one but an essential one to learning to love yourself and your life.
This week, I want to encourage you to try out yoga for self-confidence. The benefits are endless. For me, yoga is a pivotal part of the fitness of my body AND mind. From strengthening my core to stretching my potential within - it’s a no brainer that yoga should be added to everyone’s routine.
Here’s a few ways that yoga can help boost those feelings of low confidence or self-esteem.
1. Good health = good mind - You may have heard that exercise is one of the best methods to improve mental health. It’s absolutely true! It’s basically medicine for the soul. When you start exercising (yoga, running, you name it), you’ll sleep better, feel better and be more confident.
2. Improve your posture - At the start of your first class, whether it is in-person or online, you’ll notice how bad your posture has been all this time. Yoga helps strengthen our body and helps us (literally) stand tall. When we are working on our posture, we are also improving the way we walk around, and confidence begins to ooze out of us.
3. De-stress - Breathe in, breathe out... and allow the power of yoga to help you have a minute to yourself. A lot of our silly stresses can stop us from being present, as well as being aware and active in conversations. We may act shy or uninterested in conversations because we are otherwise preoccupied. With the aroma of essential oils and relaxing music to keep you company, it won’t take long to forget about the worries of adult life.
4. Connect with your body - Another brilliant thing about yoga is that you will see first hand the power that your body holds. From day one and not being able to touch your toes, to day 30 being able to almost do the splits. You and your body will be a well-oiled machine. This can make you feel empowered, proud, and it can even provide you with extra courage and confidence for social events, big meetings and more!
5. Outer and inner strength - While exercising regularly can enhance your outer strength, and some dedicated yogis will have muscles to prove it, I’m way more concerned with that inner core workout of our wellness. With my background in emotional and energy wellness, I have found yoga to help motivate me to realize my own strength and power.
6. Stretch your possibilities - When we see ourselves for the wonderful individuals we truly are, where does this leave us? Our opportunities are ever growing. Low confidence has been stopping us from taking those risks. Let’s not only stretch our legs, but also our potential.
So what’s stopping you from grabbing yourself a yoga mat, some leggings, and visiting your local studio or even finding a good channel on YouTube?
Here are a few of my recommendations on yoga gear. I’m a big fan of Manduka, I have been using their products for several years and they have never disappointed me. I find their products affordable, durable and colourfully fun!
Keep your eyes peeled for next week as I am releasing a short video of my favourite yoga poses, and tips and tricks for beginners.
Let me know if you are keen to start yoga in the comments, or if you already do it on the regular, does it help your self-confidence? It sure helps me out!
